On Saturday, July 17, more than 1,000 Boeing employees will come together at sites around the world to take part in the company's inaugural Global Day of Service.
This new annual volunteer event will feature events and activities at select pilot sites – including Puget Sound, St. Louis and Southern California in the United States, as well as Seoul, Tokyo and Brisbane, Australia. Other Boeing sites from Philadelphia to Madrid are expected to hold similar events in 2010, the program's pilot year. The mid-July date was chosen to commemorate the founding of The Boeing Company in July 1916.
"This is the next chapter in Boeing's storied history as a good corporate citizen," said Patrice Mingo, Global Corporate Citizenship director of strategic employee programs.
"Boeing employees do amazing volunteer work, driving positive change in communities around the globe where we live and work," Mingo said. "By building on our employees ongoing efforts, we will expand the opportunities for greater employee participation and access to programs and maximize our impact on communities worldwide – and that's good for our communities, our employees and our company."
