Chinook helicopter: All wrapped up and ready to roll

It arrived in widely used white plastic wrap, but this was no ordinary package. It was a 52-foot-long, modified CH-47 Chinook helicopter.

Boeing built the maintenance trainer in Philadelphia and delivered it to the Netherlands by ship in January. The Chinook was later unwrapped at its new home, the Dutch Rotary Wing Training Center near Dutch Gilze-Rijen Airbase.

The aircraft will allow Dutch and other international forces to get hands-on training close to home – something that previously required time-consuming trips to the United States. In March, the Royal Netherlands Air Force will get first crack at training on the Chinook.
