Apaches of the Royal Netherlands Air Force passed a milestone of 5,000 operational flying hours in Afghanistan early in 2009. Five AH-64D Apaches from 301 Squadron, normally based at Gilze-Rijen have been in Afghanistan flying on operations for the International Security Assistance Force since 2006. “This is a testament to the reliability and durability of the Apache and the excellent maintenance support that Boeing is providing to its customers,” said Floyd Roe, program manager Royal Netherlands Air Force Apache Program for Global Systems and Support. The aircraft are based at Camp Holland at Tarin Kowt to provide air support for Netherlands and other Coalition forces. Apaches are also used in the convoy escort role and to escort Dutch transport helicopters. Boeing provides Post Production System Support and Contractor Logistics Support to the Netherlands and has personnel stationed in The Netherlands and at Fort Hood, Texas, where the Netherlands tactical training fleet is stationed and supported by the U.S. Army 21st Cavalry Brigade. The Royal Netherlands Air Force currently operates 29 AH-64D Apaches.
