In 2008, the company invested approximately $5.7 million in community-based programs across the globe that inspire environmental citizenship and educate citizens to minimize their impact on the environment; reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase recycling and energy efficiency; and protect and restore critical natural assets and habitat.
For example, last year the company's philanthropic efforts included grants for the restoration of Thane Creek in Mumbai, the protection of some of the most diverse habitats on earth, such as the Amazon, and the preservation of endangered plant species in partnership with Botanic Gardens Conservation International. Boeing supported nonprofit organizations in Korea, Italy and Washington State that reach the next generation of scientists and stewards by teaching students environmental awareness. In California, the company supports the nonprofit TreePeople with grants and volunteerism to assist in the reforestation of areas devastated by wildfires.
These activities and the many more like them that Boeing supports each year underscore the company's clear strategy to take action as a responsible corporate citizen and neighbor.
