Targets and Measures
Environmental Management
Boeing is committed to continuously reducing its environmental footprint and will drive improvements into its core operations by:
- Expanding certification of ISO 14001, the International Organization for Standardization environmental management standard, at all major manufacturing facilities by the end of 2008. Certification to a single internationally recognized standard will integrate continual environmental improvement into core operating processes. Three Boeing manufacturing sites -- Exmouth, Australia; Everett, Wash.; and Portland, Ore. -- have already been certified.
- The application of Lean+, Boeing's one overarching continuous improvement approach, across the company and its value stream. Through the relentless prevention and elimination of waste and replication of best practices across the company, even relatively small efficiency gains add up to yield impressive results -- in just four years, the company reduced its hazardous waste output by 42 percent, electricity use by 21 percent and water use by 19 percent.
