Space Based Surveillance Systems
The ability to detect, track and monitor the movement and motives of objects in orbit is critical to protecting our nation’s vital space assets. Space Based Surveillance System (SBSS) is the only space based sensor in the U.S. Air Force Space Surveillance Network with the ability to detect distant space objects without interference from weather, atmosphere, or time of day. Boeing has overall responsibility for the SBSS system, the Ground System and initial mission operations; with Ball Aerospace providing the satellite and leveraging the Boeing on-board mission processor.
