Phased-Array Antenna

55 in L x 44 in W x
1.9 in H

125 lb*

300 W

* Typical size and weight given for B-757 installation. Iincludes mounting hardware.

Receives and tracks Ku-band Direct-to-Home satellite signals.

Preliminary analysis indicates installation for 737 is along the airplane centerline on top of the fuselage between stations 540 and 578.

Linear Polarization Converter (LPC)

8 in L x 10 in W x
4 in H

8 lb

10 W

Automatically selects circular and linear polarization.

The LPC must be within 10 inches of the LNB and within 48 inches of antenna connections.

Power Supply

18 in L x 10 in W x
3.5 in H

20 lb

150 W

Provides DC power to system from 400 Hz airplane power.

The power supply installation is in the overhead within 15 feet of the antenna connection and requires a clear path of air flow. (Two fans draw cooling air through inlet holes on the top of the panel.)

Low Noise Block Down-Converter (LNB)

10 in L x 8 in W x
4 in H

8 lb

20 W

Converts Ku-band satellite signal to L-band signal. Automatically selects upper or lower 500 MHz band.

The LPC and LNB installation is inside the fuselage within 48 inches of the antenna connections (as measured by cable length).

Control PC

Variable, rack mount

Standard PC for automatic and manual satellite service selection.

The Control PC will most likely be installed in the entertainment cabinet; however, constraints for the Control PC are unique for a specific installation.

System Phased Array Controller

15 in L x 10.3 in W x 3.3 in H

8 lb

15 W

Provides antenna commands and system status.

The SPAC is typically installed where convenient (regular access not required) and must be located within 100 feet of LNB (preference is 40 feet).

Antenna Switch Unit (ASU)

10 in L x 9 in W x
2 in H

3 lb*

2 W*

Multiplex L-band inputs to up to 24 satellite IRDs.

The ASU is usually installed in the entertainment cabinet and should be located within 10 feet of the SPAC.

* 4-IRD ASU shown
