Sean McCormack joined Boeing in 2009 as vice president for communications in Government Operations. Sean reports to both Thomas Downey, senior vice president Communications, and to Tim Keating, senior vice president, Government Operations.
Before coming to Boeing, Sean served 14 years as a foreign service officer with postings overseas in Ankara, Turkey and in Algiers, Algeria. He most recently served as spokesman and assistant secretary of state for public affairs at the U.S. Department of State from 2005 through January 2009. In that capacity he was the department's chief spokesman and communications advisor to the Secretary of State. Sean launched the Department's first ever blog in September 2007 and led the department's social media team until his departure from the State Department.
Before serving as State Department spokesman, Sean joined the National Security Council (NSC) staff in 2001 and served as a Special Assistant to the President, spokesman for the National Security Council and deputy white house press secretary until leaving for the State Department in 2005. Prior to joining the NSC staff, Sean worked in the State Department's Executive Secretariat, serving both as a "line" officer and watch officer in the Operations Center. Prior to joining the foreign service, Sean worked as an analyst at the Meridian Corporation.
Sean received as B.A. in Economics from Colby College in 1986. He earned an M.A. in International Relations from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1990.
Sean resides in Washington, DC, with his wife and two children.
