Boeing Mesa Clubs and Special Interest Groups

Unless otherwise noted, club membership and events are open to Boeing employees, Boeing retirees, vendors of Boeing, customers of Boeing, contract and government personnel assigned full time to The Boeing Company, and spouses and dependents of the above only.

Adventure Club (BEAC)

The Adventure Club's goal is to provide enjoyable outdoor activities for Boeing employees and their families. Sponsored activities include ski trips, hiking, biking, camping, photography, rockhounding, day & weekend trips, and other social activities. Club dues are $20 annually.

BEARS (Boeing Employees Aviation Recreation Squadron)

An aviation club that promotes the learning of aviation and flying. The club consists of people who have their pilots licenses, instructors and people who want to or intend to get their license. The club has acquired the King videos for use by the club members and is in the process of acquiring additional training aids, like the Garmin 195 GPS that the club just purchased for member use. The club is planning tours of aviation related facilities to better understand their operation, (i.e. Shy Harbor Tower, TRACON, American West training, etc.). The club meets monthly and is intending to structure classes between meetings.

Canoe and Kayak Club (BECKC)

This club was formed in September, 1999, for those who share a common interest in paddle craft. Club activities include promoting boating safety, improving paddling skills and conducting boating events. Meetings are held on the second Thursday of the month, where we exchange information, plan events or view instructional videos. Club events include flat water touring and exploring, white water canoeing, kayaking and lake or river camping trips. All events are open to members and their guests. Dues are $5.00 per year and the club owns a guest white water kayak.

Desert Scuba Club (BEDSC)

The Desert Divers general meetings are held the last Thursday of the month at the El Mar Dive Center on Broadway, between Dobson and Price. Meetings start at 7:00 p.m. There is a one-time $10 initiation fee. Annual membership dues are $15 for individuals, $20 for families, and $10 for retirees. Half-year rates are also available.

Golf Club (BEGC)

The BEGC is comprised of Boeing employees and their guests who participate in League Tournaments. The Tournaments are played once a month throughout the year at various golf courses around the valley. The BEGC also offers a weekend Get-A-Way Tournament with a multi-day tournament format. In addition, a BEGC qualification tournament is held each year in which the BEGC's best teams are sent to the Annual AGA Club team championship. Each tournament offers awards for low gross scores (1st, 2nd, 3rd and etc.) for each flight. Additional prizes are awarded by holes (closest to pin on par 3s, closest to pin in 2 on par 4s, closest to pin in 3 on par 5s and longest putts). The November and December events are the year-end Club Championship events with lunch, special attendance prizes, and awarding of the Club Champion and President's Cup Awards. The yearly membership fee is $75. BEGC membership includes discounted monthly tournament entry fee, a USGA handicap index which is calculated twice a month (1st & 15th), AGA membership card, eligibility to participate in AGA tournaments, four issues of the Arizona, The State of Golf, Annual Arizona Golf Course Directory, and a periodic e-newsletter.

Hook & Needle Club (Boeing Needlers)

The Hook & Needle Club is a group of active women meeting each Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in Building 510/ Room 378 for the enrichment of learning the arts of the "needle." We are a varied group with skills ranging from beginner to expert in crocheting, knitting, tatting, embroidery, cross stitch, and quiliting. Our club does a lot of charity projects such as making granny square afghans for sick children and putting together bags for the homeless shelters containing sample size products of personal items and a handmade face cloth. We are an interactive group and happy to help you learn regardless of where you are on the curve. Join us if you have an interest in the needlework arts (or the art of needlework), we'd love to have you.

Longbow Soccer Club (BELSC)

The Longbow Soccer Club provides an opportunity for employees to participate in competitive and recreational soccer. Practice is held on Wednesday nights. We currently sponsor a team in the Tempe Soccer league. The club also fields teams for various tournaments in the greater Phoenix area.

Mixed Golf Club (BEMGC)

This club is comprised of 225 members including men and women who participate in a Summer League and a Monthly League. Both leagues are fun leagues that do not use handicaps but award hole prizes (closest to pin on par 3s, closest to pin in 2 on par 4s, closest to pin in 3 on par 5s and long putts). In addition to the hole prizes both leagues award attendance prizes for each event. The Summer League plays 9 holes every Wednesday and Thursday evening from May through September. An additional prize for the low number of putts is award each evening. A final 18-hole event is held in November which includes a lunch and special attendance prizes. The Monthly League plays 12 months a year with an event scheduled every month at a different golf course. Additional prizes are awarded for gross score (1st, 5th, 10th, 15th, etc.). The December event is the year-end event with a lunch and special attendance prizes. No dues for the summer league and $10 dues for the monthly league

Racquetball Club (BERC)

The Boeing Employees' Racquetball Club was a hit from the very beginning. Organized in October of 1999, the club started it's first league with 32 Boeing teammates. Since then the Club has quickly gown to 50+ plus racquetball enthusiasts (both men and women) who meet with their respective skill levels 4 per week at Golden's Health and Racquet Club in Mesa, Arizona. The Club includes all skill levels form the true beginner to borderline pro. Club activities include ongoing leagues, an ongoing challenge ladder, demo/instructional nights sponsored by world champion racquetball pros, participation in local tournaments and award socials to recognize league champions. Dues are $5 for each league (e.g., Fall , Winter, Spring, Summer). The Racquetball Club activities have brought Mesa teammates together to build new friendships and improve the overall morale within the company.

Skeet and Trap Club (BEST)

The BEST Club is an recreational organization dedicated to the safe enjoyment of shotgun sports in a friendly social environment. We provide our members with basic instruction in the safe handling of shotguns, firing range safety and the games (and variations) of Skeet and Trap. The Club holds a meeting/shoot one Sunday per month at the Red Mountain Trap and Skeet facility on the Beeline Highway. Membership is open to all Boeing employees and retirees. Special memberships are available for on-site contractors and military personnel. All shooters from novice to expert are welcome. The current dues are $12 per year.

Swing Club (BESC)

The Boeing Employee Swing Club (BESC) was formed in October 1999 to "for the mutual recreation and pleasure in Swing Dancing." The club provides and sponsors dance lessons, information on where to dance in the Valley of the Sun, and encourages social dance for exercise and fun.

Tai Chi Club (BETCCC)

The Boeing Employees' T'ai Chi Ch'uan Club in Mesa, AZ., was formed in 1999 to bring together indivduals interested in reaping the diverse benefits that come from the dedicated practice of an internal martial art. T'ai Chi Ch'uan is an ancient Chinese exercise. Its graceful, strengthening movements promote good health and create habits of relaxation. It is a moving meditation, restoring a balance between the body and the mind. Over time, the applicability of T'ai Chi Ch'uan as a martial art becomes apparent.

Toastmasters

Toastmasters is an internationally acclaimed non-profit educational organization dedicated to improving people's communication and leaders skills. We have 75 years of experience in helping people become better communicators and leaders. By participating in Toastmasters, all of your communication skills will improve, including listening, interpersonal skills, prepared presentations, and impromptu speaking. Toastmasters will also help you improve your leadership skills including how to be an effective team leader and teammate.
