After spatial discretization, a nonlinear parabolic partial differential equation is converted to a system of differential-algebraic equations with 50 state variables and 3 controls. By exploiting sparsity in the right-hand sides, SOCS solves a nonlinear program with 9573 variables, 9399 active constraints, and 174 degrees of freedom, using only 798 evaluations of the problem functions.Partial Differential Equations -- Optimal Heating
