Love That New Airplane Smell

By Aimee Grinnan

October 2016

In 1988, I was a flight attendant trainee for USAIr. We had to train on equipment in the middle of the night, so as to not disrupt the aircraft routing. One summer night at 0200, the trainees were summoned to the hangar for 737-400 training. Little did we know that we were about to be AWED by a brand-new airplane that had not even flown for the airline!

All the trainees and trainers oohed and aahed over her beauty and state of the art! She smelled new and shined as no other!

I am still employed and flew many, many 737s after that. And now, we have retired the fleet of 300 and 400 series. But I will never forget the beauty and smell of the first 737 of my career!!!!
