Boeing is a company of more than 170,000 people working across the United States and in 70 countries, serving customers around the world. We know that the diversity of our workforce gives us a competitive advantage in our increasingly complex and global business environment. And so at Boeing, we spend a great deal of time and effort to become more diverse, engaged and inclusive at all levels of our organization.

Out of Many, One

We believe the true test of diversity within any organization -- or any society -- is whether its people build upon their differences or are divided by them. We strive to be a workforce of many working toward a common goal. We value all employees' skills, strengths and perspectives, while striving to foster a participatory and inclusive workplace.

Diversity Groups

Our attention to diversity is more than mere corporate jargon. At Boeing, we give people room to think and act differently -- with greater speed, agility and creativity. A number of company-sponsored employee organizations have helped make diversity a successful reality at Boeing.

• Boeing Diversity Councils are integrated groups of site leaders, managers and employees who work to create a culture where everyone is respected and included. These groups provide learning and leadership opportunities, enhance communication, and facilitate the implementation of organizational diversity plans. Boeing has more than 40 Diversity Councils.
• Boeing Affinity Groups are employee-led associations designed to further personal and professional development, promote diversity within the company, engage in outreach and community volunteerism, and strengthen networking. While members share a common interest, such as race, gender or cultural identity, membership is open to all employees. The seven affinity groups collectively have more than 90 local chapters and each is supported by a local Diversity Team representative:

  • Boeing Employees Ability Awareness Association
  • Boeing Association of Gay, Lesbian, Bi and Transgender Employees & Friends

Programs and Events

Internal company programs and events are designed to work together to support diversity and inclusion throughout the year. Key diversity programs and events include the following:

• Training is offered on a wide range of topics, including awareness of cultural, gender and international sensitivities, avoiding stereotypes and micro-inequities, understanding generational differences, and how to positively impact culture change.
• Heritage Month commemorations are held companywide to recognize and promote awareness of different cultures and experiences, to encourage employee involvement, and to develop a diverse and inclusive work environment.
• Diversity summits are held during the year to underscore Boeing's commitment to diversity and provide Boeing attendees with cutting-edge, skill-based training in diversity and EEO compliance.
• Mentoring programs are conducted companywide at two levels: Enterprise Executive Mentoring (for executives and middle managers) and Enterprise Mentoring (for managers, team leaders and others). The programs provide multicultural discussion tools. Boeing also provides a variety of mentoring programs at the program, job/profession or site level, as well as those sponsored by affinity groups.

Diversity Recruiting

Boeing has an active recruitment program to help identify and attract diverse talent through recruiting efforts at the college, community and professional level. Activities include hosting Boeing-sponsored job fairs, participating in events and conferences where potential candidates are located, conducting on-campus recruiting at historically black colleges and universities and minority-serving institutions, and placing recruitment advertising in diverse media.

Disabilities and Diversity

We understand that our view of the world is just one of many, and that others see and experience things in different ways. We can recognize and respond to those varying -- and valuable -- perspectives. One example of many in the area of diversity is our commitment to the employment of qualified people with disabilities. For some people, in certain circumstances, a physical or mental barrier due to a disability may impact a person's ability to perform job functions in the usual fashion. Boeing reviews such situations individually and coordinates accommodation arrangements and education programs that work to eliminate barriers and best access individual skills and abilities in the Boeing workforce.
