Royal Air Maroc to Acquire Next-generation 737s

SEATTLE, Aug. 30, 1996 -- Royal Air Maroc (RAM) is converting previously announced orders for nine Boeing 737-400 airplanes to Next-Generation 737-800 airplanes, Boeing Commercial Airplane Group confirmed today. Delivery of the aircraft will begin in 1998.

"The 737-800s that RAM is ordering complement the fleet of 737s they currently operate," commented Seddik Belyamani, vice president of International Sales for Boeing Commercial Airplane Group. "The airline has been very successful with their current fleet of 737s, and the addition of these aircraft will further that success," he added.

The 737-800 is a new, stretched version of the current 737-400. It incorporates all the enhancements that will be found in the other members of the Next-Generation 737 family (the 737-600 and 737-700), including a redesigned passenger cabin, a flight deck featuring the most versatile display system offered on any commercial jetliner and improvements in operating performance.

Royal Air Maroc, based in Casablanca, Morocco, has been a Boeing customer since 1969. The carrier currently operates a jet fleet of 27 aircraft including 19 twin-engine 737s.

The Next-Generation 737-600, -700 and -800 series launched nearly three years ago builds on the success of the current 737 family, and has now attracted 379 orders. The 737 family is the best-selling jet airliner of all time, with orders now placed for more than 3,300.
