Deutsche BA Orders Seven Boeing 737-300s

SEATTLE, March 10, 1997 -- Boeing Commercial Airplane Group today confirmed an order by Germany-based Deutsche BA for seven Boeing 737-300s, valued at $287 million. The airline is acquiring the jets in a financial agreement with Deutsche Structured Finance. Boeing is scheduled to deliver the airplanes beginning in August.

The single-class configuration of Deutsche BA's 737-300s will accommodate 136 passengers and be used primarily on German domestic routes. The airplanes will replace a fleet of Fokker 100s and join a fleet of nine 737s currently on lease.

Deutsche BA is affiliated with British Airways, which owns 49 percent of the airline, and operates as part of BA's global network. The current generation 737-300 is among the quietest and most fuel-efficient twin-jets in the world. It offers advanced structural materials, new corrosion inhibiting techniques, advanced digital avionics technology, improved aerodynamics, and high-bypass engines.

The Boeing 737 continues to lead the industry as the best-selling commercial jet of all time. With today's announcement, the 737 family has won orders for 3,635 airplanes.
