| AIRCRAFT NOISE MEASUREMENT
PROGRAM
The aircraft noise measurement program is conducted by staff of
the Reno-
Tahoe Airport Authority. The noise monitoring system consists
of 8 portable LD 820 noise monitoring units, which are placed
at each of the 8 locations for a two-week period each quarter
of the year. The noise monitoring locations are selected to lie
within the range of potentially significant aircraft noise exposures
in the vicinity of Reno-Tahoe International Airport, to allow
comparison to noise level data collected during other noise measurement
programs conducted for the Airport, and to provide statistically
valid data for calibration of noise levels predicted by the FAA's
Intergrated Noise Model (INM).
The noise monitoring sites are described below and are shown
in the figure above.
Monitoring Sites
Site 1:
This site is located at El Rancho Substation at the corner of
El Rancho Drive and "G" Street in Sparks. This site
is 1.8 miles north of the Airport and approximately 0.6 miles
west of the Runway 16R-34L extended center line.
Site 2:
This site is located at 3281 Wilma Drive in Sparks, 3.4 miles
north-east of Runway 16R-34L. The monitoring location is underneath
Sparks Visual arrival routes and 360 Standard Instrument Departure
Route (SID).
Site 3:
Located at 1902 I Street in Sparks, this site is near the extended
centerline of Runway 16R-34L, approximately 1.5 miles north of
airport property. Aircraft departing on Runway 34L, generally
turn before reaching the site, while aircraft arriving straight-in
to Runway 16R pass directly overhead.
Site 4:
This site is located at 1980 Oppio Street in Sparks. It is approximately
2.5 miles north of the north end of Runway 16R-34L, and is underneath
many arrivals and departures on that runway.
Site 5:
Located at 4570 Almond Drive in Reno, this site is 1,600 feet
south of the south end of Runway 16R-34L and approximately 1,400
feet west of the extended runway centerline. The noise monitoring
unit is placed in a residential back yard with a sideline exposure
to aircraft departures on Runway 16R and arrivals on 34L. The
site receives back blast exposures from aircraft departing on
Runway 34L, as well as reverse thrust noise from aircraft landing
on Runway 16R.
Site 6:
This site, at 7192 Offenhauser Drive in Reno, is approximately
1.7 miles south of the runway about 800 feet east of the extended
runway centerline of Runway 16R- 34L. The monitoring location
is underneath most aircraft arriving and departing on that runway.
Site 7:
This site is located at 12955 South Hills Drive in Reno, about
3.5 miles south of the end of Runway 16R-34L, east of the extended
runway centerline. The neighborhood is residential in character,
with low ambient noise levels. Aircraft departing on the Wagge
One SID pass directly over the site, as do aircraft arriving on
the Localizer/Back Course approach.
Site 8:
Located at 2260 Stowe Drive, this site is about 5.8 miles south
of the end of Runway 16R/34L, 0.4 miles west of the extended runway
centerline. This site is exposed to noise from aircraft departing
on the Wagge One SID and arriving on the Localizer/Back Course
approach.
The Airport Authority owns and operates 8 portable Larson Davis
820 monitoring systems. Quarterly noise monitoring is done at
8 different sites throughout the Reno/Sparks area, to support
the annual Noise Exposure Maps. |
