NOISE ABATEMENT PROCEDURES
| GENERAL
According to AIP (Swiss Aeronautical Information Publication),
vol 1,
FAL 3-1 LSGS
For noise abatement reasons following types of jet aircraft are
subject to a special permission of the Airport Authority: aircraft
class I, II, III (see Noise surcharge) and civil registered fighters.
Justified requests for a special permission are to be lodged at
least 24 hours before the flight with the Airport Authority.
Reverse Thrust:
For deceleration it is recommended to use entire RWY LEN AVBL;
use of reverse thrust shall be limited for safety or particular
operational reasons |
AIRPORT CURFEWS
From Monday until Saturday between 07:00 - 08:00,
12:00 - 13:00 and 18:30 - 20:00 as well as Sundays and National
holidays, the following flights are prohibited to operate in order
to reduce the noise pollution :
- Runway rounds for aircrafts not based in Sion of the category
A and B as well a bi engine aircrafts
- Aerobatics flights within the CTR and TMA Sion
- Breakings (engine and jet controls)
- Technical flights
- Training flights for helicopters
- Training flights on the northern side
Moreover, landings, approaches not followed by landings. Take
off of aircraft class I, II, III or fighter aircrafts licensed
for civil operation are subject to special authorisation.
|
PREFERENTIAL RUNWAYS
Runway 25 will be allocated for take-off provided weather conditions
as well as the safe and fluid traffic handling permit.
In justified cases, runway 07 will be allocated on request. |
OPERATING QUOTA - NONE
ENGINE RUN-UP RESTRICTIONS
| Engine trials for aircraft with turbo-propulsion engines
are done in the South sector of the Airport. This zone is located
far away from the residential zone.
These trials are not allowed from Monday until Saturday from
07:00 - 08:00, from 12:00 - 13:00, and from 18:30 - 20:00, as
well as Sundays and Public holidays.
Engine trials of Jet aircrafts are made inside a soundproof hall
called "cellule de freinage". It is located in the military
zone. This installation is also available for civil aviation.
Maintenance of jet aircraft is not made at this Airport, except
for some special cases.
|
APU OPERATING RESTRICTIONS
| The following regulations are applicable to the use of APU:
- at maximum 15 MIN prior to the aircraft departure
- at maximum 5 MIN after the aircraft arrival
|
NOISE BUDGET RESTRICTIONS - NONE
NOISE SURCHARGE
| The landing fee includes a mass related charge plus a noise
fee based on the noise classification of aircraft. In addition
there are fees for other services such as parking, passengers,
etc. There are noise fees for jet aircraft, propeller-driven airplanes
up to 5.7 tons. Listed below is information only for jet aircraft.
New or modified aircraft: If an operator puts forward a more adventageous
classification for his aircraft, he has to give evidence by means
of appropriate documentation within 60 days after the application.
On condition of a timely submitted proof, the noise surcharges
paid during this period will be reimbursed.
Mass related charge
The mass related charge depends on the max takeoff weight (MTOW)
of the aircraft as stated in the Airworthiness Certificate or
in the Aircraft Flight Manual or any other equivalent offical
document. |

Propeller aircraft with a mass of up to 5.7 tons(MTOW)
Class determiniation:
The noise-related landing charge depends on which of the classes
A to D the aircraft belongs to: The FOCA is responsible for the
aeroplane classification and for its updating. The classification
of aeroplanes registered in Switzerland is published in the Register
or in a separate list. The classification of aeroplanes registered
abroad is established in conformity with the corresponding aeroplane
type classification (FOCA list, "Classification on propeller driven
aircraft GEN 4.1, and 4.1.5)
The operator has a limit of 60 days from the perception of the
charge to justify a more advantageous classification for his aeroplane.
As far as the proofs are presented within the required time, the
excess charges will be repaid. |
| Amount of the Charge: The charge amounts to: (excl.

CHAPTER 2 RESTRICTIONS
| Chapter 2 airplanes are banned from operating at airports
in Switzerland as of April 1, 2002. |
CHAPTER 2 PHASEOUT
| From April 1, 2002 all civil subsonic jet aeroplanes operating
at airports in Switzerland must comply with Chapter 3 standards.
See information below: |

The Swiss Federal Rule for
Chapter 2 Phaseout
|
| The Swiss Federal Council has decreed on 23rd February 1994 an
Ordinance on noise related operating restrictions for jet aircraft
(SR 748,121,12) |
| For information and convenience of english speaking readers,
the contents of this Ordinance is translated as follows: |
Article 1 Principle
Subsonic jet aircraft which are not certificated according to the
standards of Chapter 3 (of ICAO Annex 16) may not operate at Swiss
airports after 1 April 1995, except for those defined in Article
2 and 3 hereafter. |
Article 2 General Exemptions
Subsonic jet aircraft with a noise certification corresponding at
least to Chapter 2 (of ICAO Annex 16) may operate at Swiss airports
for a period of 25 years after their year of manufacture, but no
longer than 31 March 2002. |
Article 3 Authorized Exemptions
The Federal Office for Civil Aviation may grant exemptions to Article
1 for important reasons, namely: |
a) for aircraft registered in developing countries
b) for aircraft of historical interest
c) for flights for the purpose of alteration, repair or maintenance
|
Article 4 Airport Operating Conditions
Airport operators may impose conditions for airport use by aircraft
subject to Article 2 and 3, provided these conditions are approved
by the Federal Office for Civil Aviation |
Article 5 Fees
The fee due for any exemption granted under Article will be SF140 |
Article 6
This Ordiance will come into force on 15 March 1994 |
CHAPTER 3 RESTRICTIONS - NONE
