Structural Testing Capabilities
Boeing maintains specialized facilities for evaluating, verifying, and certifying airframes, components and materials used in the aviation/aerospace industry. We can accommodate testing everything from small coupons to large structural components.
Our test systems allow us to handle both small and large tests and more than 5,000 channels of data. With our advanced digital and analog servo-control systems, we can handle both static and fatigue loads and other parameters such as deflection, strain, stress, temperature, and flow.
When our facilities have available capacity, they can be made available to qualified companies through a Boeing Technology Services (BTS) contract. Contact Boeing Technology Services for information on availability and specific characteristics and capabilities of these labs.
Here are just some of the capabilities and types of test facilities that might be available:
- Shock Testing
- Sonic Testing
- Environmental Vibration
- Structural Modal Analysis
- Flight Vibration Testing
- Full Scale Aircraft and Airframes Testing
- Component Testing
- Materials Analysis
- Damage Tolerance
- Durability
- Stress Testing
- Static Properties
Special Test Techniques
Our experienced test engineers and technicians are familiar with many special techniques for measuring the effects of structural loading including; moiré topography, interferometry, video thermography (SPATE), acoustic emission monitoring, the application of photo elastic coatings, and three-dimensional photo elasticity.
Fast Data Reduction Capability
Test results are recorded on-line at the test site for quick assessment, then can be transferred to other workstations for further analysis, and printed out in both graphic and tabular forms. As many as 1,500 channels of data on a single test specimen can be recorded and reduced for analysis. Structures data acquisition and reduction is not only quick and accurate, but also allows our engineers, using Computer Aided Three-Dimensional Interactive Application (CATIA) workstations, to quickly revise fixtures and testing methods.
Our systems are flexible enough to allow you to define the best format for your data. If requested, we can even provide you the means to monitor or modify your tests in real time, from anywhere in the world with a connection to the World Wide Web.
The Boeing facilities, equipment, and testing techniques are constantly being updated, so contact BTS to see if the type of facility or capability you need is available.
To join the many companies using testing resources available at The Boeing Company, contact the Boeing Technology Services Marketing Manager Ms. LeAnn Diessner at 206-662-4287, request a quote online, or e-mail us for more information about our test capabilities.
