Through appropriate technology application, product redesign, dedication to leaning our production system and supply base rationalization, Boeing Winnipeg reduced the price of our 737NG Engine Strut Aft Fairing by over 60% in the last five years.
Using the Design for Manufacturing and Assembly approach, the Boeing Winnipeg Team examined product costs. They discovered that changing the 737NG Engine Strut Aft Fairing's heat shield assembly from a titanium casting to a super plastic formed titanium heat shield yielded significant cost reduction.
