Investing Principal
Boston

Hunter Ashmore is an investing principal for Boeing HorizonX Ventures. Based in Boston, his focus is sourcing technology investments and managing partnerships primarily across the northeast United States.

Ashmore began his aerospace career at Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne (now Aerojet Rocketdyne), where he started on turbomachinery development for the NASA J-2X rocket engine before moving to combustion devices development in the Advanced Programs division. While working on small, nimble development teams, he thrived in overcoming the unique challenges at the intersection of business strategy and new technology development. After becoming a focal for innovation and intrapreneurship activities at Rocketdyne, Ashmore joined Cool Planet Energy Systems, a venture-backed clean-tech startup, initially working on the engineering team and later becoming director of business development.

To continue deepening his understanding of business strategy, Ashmore left Cool Planet to pursue a Master of Business Administration. After, he worked as a researcher for Harvard Business School, founded a fitness-tech startup, worked as investment consultant for GE Ventures, and was an independent consultant to Optomec, an advanced manufacturing company.

Ashmore holds a Bachelor and Master of Science in mechanical engineering in fluid mechanics and heat transfer from Florida State University and an MBA from Harvard Business School. Outside Boeing, he volunteers as a judge and mentor with startup incubators and competitions, and co-organizes a meet-up group aimed at exploring the broad landscape of digital-industrial technologies.
