About Forces of Flight

Welcome to "Forces of Flight," a new Boeing program created to help classroom teachers to excite and engage students about science. The project was designed to meet and promote the National Science Education Standards for grades 5 through 8, but also to be flexible enough to meet a variety of other needs and interests. We hope that you will find this program helpful and interesting. We are proud to partner with teachers who are making the effort to inspire the next generation of scientists.

In addition to being informative, this program is intended to promote student inquiry by linking the information on the posters and web site to a series of classic hands-on physics experiments that demonstrate how the forces of flight actually work. Many of these experiments have been used by Boeing engineers in classroom visits, teacher training seminars, and science camps over the years. We selected them for this project because they (1) clearly demonstrate the concepts being studied, (2) can be performed without incurring significant cost, (3) make excellent small group activities, and (4) are fun to do.

We have also developed a teacher's guide to round out this project. It is available in the Resources section of the Forces of Flight web site.
