Environment
Local Strategies
The Boeing Company's charitable investments in the area of environment focus on innovative and collaborative initiatives that address the growing population demands on the Puget Sound region. Boeing supports programs that:
- Promote sustainable growth in the Puget Sound area through initiatives that seek to protect critical lands and wild places by developing programs that encourage the creation of vibrant cities where people will choose to live and work.
- Address sprawl and land development through the acquisition and protection of open spaces, shorelines, forests and farmlands. Because the rate of land and shoreline development is occuring at an alarming rate and these impacts are irreversable, land and shoreline conservation are a key component of Boeing's strategy.
- Protect and restore critical habitat including urban parks, forests, farms, shorelines and open spaces with a special emphasis on engaging volunteers in restoration programs.
- Facilitate the recovery of salmon and other indicator species through watershed restoration programs.
- Provide access to hands-on environmental training and education through the support of zoos, aquariums and other environmental education centers. Boeing will only consider programs at zoos and aquariums that focus on conservation and environmental education. Programs must be unique and seek to change the behavior of individuals and families towards environmental protection.
