The Boeing Exceptional Volunteer Service Award

Boeing Exceptional Volunteer Service Award Logo

Overview

Founded in 1987 in honor of William M. Allen, president of Boeing from 1945 to 1968, the William Allen Award celebrated Allen's deep commitment to community life. For many years, the award honored the outstanding accomplishments of Boeing employees who dedicated their time and talents to help respond to important local needs and build more vibrant communities.

The Boeing Exceptional Volunteer Service (BEVS) Award is presented each fall to a Boeing employee volunteer who utilizes his or her professional skills to address community needs.

Winners are presented with the William Allen Chairman's Cup, named in honor of the exceptional leadership and community service of past Boeing leader William Allen. President and chairman of the board for nearly 30 years, Allen guided Boeing to join other community leaders in Puget Sound to form the Good Neighbor Fund and loaned executive program - which eventually became the United Way of Seattle and King County. The BEVS Award honors his legacy by recognizing employee volunteers' dedication to their communities.

Nominations for the BEVS Award are accepted between August and September from Boeing employees, friends and family members as well as representatives from community organizations (see Eligibility Requirements). Nominators should be able to demonstrate how the employee volunteers applied their skills to positively impact the nonprofit agency and the community.

Nominations will be accepted from August 24, 2011 to September 16, 2011.

Nominations are masked to remove identifying information and then reviewed by screening and selection committees (see "Review of Nominations" for more information). Three employees, one winner and two finalists, will be selected and honored at awards ceremonies at their respective work sites later this year.

The winner:

The winner will be honored with the William Allen plaque, his or her name engraved on the William Allen Chairman's Cup, to be displayed at the winner's work site, and presented with a certificate signed by Jim McNerney, Boeing's chairman, president and CEO. In addition, a $10,000 grant will be awarded to the nonprofit benefiting from the volunteer's efforts. (Please note, grants may not be split; please list only one nonprofit on the nomination form).

Two finalists:

A grant of $2,500 will be awarded to the nonprofit listed on the nomination form of each of the two finalists (Note: please list only one nonprofit as the grant may not be split). Each finalist will receive the William Allen plaque, and a certificate signed by Jim McNerney, Boeing's chairman, president and CEO.
