DC-3 (Douglas 1935)
The immortal DC-3 first flew on December 17, 1935. It was a simple, logical, evolutionary development of the DC-1 and DC-2. New 1,000 hp Pratt & Whitney engines permitted the DC-3 to carry 21 passengers 1,480 miles at 195 mph. The worldâs airlines bought 448 DC-3s, and many times that number of surplus C-47s.
