Boeing Delta II Launches NASA IMAGE Observatory

VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif., Mar. 25, 2000 -- A Boeing Delta II rocket began its journey into space carrying a NASA imaging satellite into orbit to help scientists understand the Sun's activity and its effect on satellites and astronauts in orbit and communications and power systems on Earth. Today's successful launch boosted NASA's Imager for Magnetopause-to-Aurora Global Exploration (IMAGE) into a highly elliptical orbit around the Earth's poles.
