Boeing Delta IV Production Under Way — A technician inspects a nearly completed propellant tank stiffener ring for a Delta IV rocket. The five-meter-diameter ring was cut out of a single piece of forged aluminum on a three-axis milling machine to ensure maximum strength. The Delta IV is being developed for the U.S. Air Force Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle (EELV) program. A factory to manufacture common booster cores is nearing completion in Decatur, Ala. First flight of the Delta IV will be in 2001.
