Topping Off Ceremony -- Delta IV Launch Tower

Space Launch Complex 37, Cape Canaveral, Florida

CAPE CANAVERAL AIR FORCE STATION, Fla., March 2, 2000 -- This morning on an historic Saturn 1 launch pad at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (CCAFS), Boeing and Raytheon Engineers and Ironworkers topped off a 330-foot tall mobile service tower.

Boeing is converting the pad -- part of Space Launch Complex 37 -- into the nation's newest launch facility to support the Delta IV family of launch vehicles. The mobile service tower will weigh 9 million pounds when completed and provide workers with 360 degree access to the Delta IV rockets while they are on the pad. Construction at SLC-37 is now more than 50 percent complete.
