Ground-based Midcourse Defense
Nov. 17, 1999 -- A canister holding an engineering model inert missile is completely lowered into the Ground-based Midcourse Defense test silo simulator. Procedures for handling the canister were documented throughout the process to ensure proper handling and safe operations in the future. The test silo simulator is neither capable of actually launching a missile nor is it connected to any U.S. command and control network. The lab provides for developmental vehicle systems integration and also serves as an inert training environment.
