Ground-based Midcourse Defense
Oct. 1, 1999 -- The Boeing Company in Huntsville, Ala., prepares the Ground-based Midcourse Defense test simulator launch platform site for installation of the System Interface Vault (SIV). The SIV is an enclosed unit that contains all interface cabling and hardware connecting the test silo simulator with the Development and Integration Laboratory. The test silo simulator is neither capable of actually launching a missile nor is it connected to any U.S. command and control network. The lab provides for developmental vehicle systems integration and also serves as an inert training environment.
