Ground-based Midcourse Defense

Nov. 19, 1999 -- The first engineering model inert missile in a canister is unloaded from a trailer onto a platform where it will be prepared for placement by a crane into the Ground-based Midcourse Defense test silo simulator at the Development and Integration Laboratory at The Boeing Company in Huntsville, Ala. The test silo simulator is neither capable of actually launching a missile nor is it connected to any U.S. command and control network. The lab provides for developmental vehicle systems integration and also serves as an inert training environment.
