Ground-based Midcourse Defense

Oct. 1, 1999 -- Boeing employees stand in front of the Ground-based Midcourse Defense test silo simulator opening on the site where the System Interface Vault (SIV) will be installed. The SIV is an enclosed unit that contains all interface cabling and hardware connecting the test silo simulator with the Development and Integration Lab. The test silo simulator is neither capable of actually launching a missile nor is it connected to any U.S. command and control network. The lab provides for developmental vehicle systems integration and also serves as an inert training environment.
