Boeing Guidance Repair Center
Heath, Ohio
Boeing Guidance Repair Center performs complete depot level repair of inertial guidance and navigation systems for the military services.
Boeing competitively won a cost-plus-award fee contract for the Privatization-In-Place of the former Aerospace Guidance and Metrology Center (AGMC) Newark Air Force Base, Ohio, on Dec. 15, 1995. The Air Force formally turned over responsibility for all AGMC programs to Boeing management Oct. 1, 1996, marking the first time a military repair facility has been privatized. The Boeing Guidance Repair Center (BGRC) was established to perform complete depot level repair and calibration of inertial guidance/navigation systems for the military services. The Center is ISO 9001 registered and has received Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification on portions of commercial aircraft inertial navigation systems.
In October, 1999 Boeing was awarded a sole source 15 year follow-on contract from the U.S. Air Force.
BGRC is recognized within The Boeing Company as a Strategic Center for defense electronics, guidance, and navigation repair. BGRC repairs, tests, and calibrates nearly every type of guidance/navigation system including: inertial navigation units for aircraft such as the F-15, F-16, F-117, B-1B, B-2, B-52, C-17, C-130, and C-141, as well as the Minuteman III and Peacekeeper Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles. BGRC also services advanced cruise missile sensors and maintains the Dual Miniature Inertial Navigation System (DMINS) for the Navy's aircraft carriers.
In addition, BGRC's Measurement and Test Equipment Laboratory has various laboratories to perform complex tests and analyses including calibration and repair of vital test equipment. BGRC's Aerospace Machining and Support Shops has a world-class machining facility for hazardous metals and alloys that are structured for designing and manufacturing of special tools and fixtures; including beryllium parts and components.
The majority of the repair processes are accomplished under one roof in 247,800 square feet of environmentally controlled and clean room areas. The operators and technicians who perform these repairs are certified through a Product Acceptance Certification program.
BGRC's management is built on forming integrated repair teams to maintain the support required for repair and maintenance of systems down to the component level. Subcontracts and teaming agreements are in place to ensure the knowledge and technical experience of unique systems that would be managed by the original equipment manufacturers; Condor Pacific Industries, Honeywell, Raytheon, Kearfott, Litton and Smiths Industries. Today, more than 630 people are employed by the center.
