Guidance Replacement Program (GRP)
Based upon observed degradation in MM II electronics and computer reliability in the early 1980s, the U.S. Air Force projected a similar degradation in MM III electronics without an avionics upgrade. The Minuteman (MM) Guidance Replacement Program (GRP) extends the service life of the MM III Missile Guidance Set (MGS) through the year 2020 by modernization of the guidance system electronics. The program is currently in the production and deployment phase, having achieved Initial Operational Capability in July, 2000, and has performed satisfactorily on five U.S. Air Force operational test launches.
GRP also includes the development and upgrade of guidance system software, replacement/modification of related test and support equipment at the guidance depot (Boeing Guidance Repair Center) and other weapon system test facilities.
Boeing has been the only U.S. Air Force ICBM guidance system integration contractor for over 39 years on the MM I-II-III Peacekeeper, Small ICBM and now GRP.
