Weapons & Ground Systems Sustainment
The silo-based Strategic Missile Systems force is deployed in Launch Facilities dispersed throughout the United States. Boeing actively participates in system test and hardware replacement activities needed to keep the Minuteman and Peacekeeper systems viable through the year 2020. Boeing also provides essential sustaining engineering support that assures the continued effectiveness of the Minuteman and Peacekeeper missile fleet.
Boeing personnel provide engineering, logistics, and system test support that are critical to the day-to-day operation of the weapon system. Boeing employees conduct system level testing at the Strategic Missile Integration Complex (SMIC) located at Hill Air Force Base. At the SMIC, fully operational configurations of the fielded weapon systems can be evaluated to validate equipment performance and potential equipment modifications. Boeing workers at the Survivability and Vulnerability Integration Center evaluate system performance in simulated nuclear and flight environments. In addition, Boeing supports the secure codes system, which provides nuclear safety/surety of the Strategic Missile Systems systems. Boeing also provides substantial technical support to design, evaluation, system documentation, and modification program efforts that are managed by the Strategic Missile Systems SPO and the Prime Integrator (TRW).
