Boeing Plans 30-Percent Expansion to World's Largest Satellite Factory

EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Aug. 20, 2001 -- PLANNING AHEAD - Boeing Satellite Systems is expanding and remodeling its one-million-square-foot satellite factory. Within the existing factory, one-third of the one hundred thousand square foot high bay space for satellite integration and test will be expanded to accommodate new commercial, defense business and national security programs. The expansion will include adding integration and test facilities, a containerization facility and an acoustic test facility. Simultaneously, other parts of the factory will be remodeled to accommodate the transfer of the Global Positioning System IIF program from other parts of Boeing. The factory expansion is scheduled for completion by the first quarter of 2003.
