Boeing Shows Customer Service with Conference, Website

ST. LOUIS, July 30, 2002 -- Commitment to quality and customer service are The Boeing Company's [NYSE: BA] two main themes during the Ninth Biennial Commercial Satellite Owner/Operator's Conference today through Aug. 1.

At this three-day gathering of spacecraft engineers and operators from more than 30 companies, throughout the world, Boeing will debut a new customer support website designed to make it easier for customers to readily access technical assistance and to monitor the up-to-date status of their spacecraft in orbit.

"We have made many changes over the last years, and we are excited to have another opportunity to show our customers how we plan to do business in the future," said Randy Brinkley, president of Boeing Satellite Systems, the satellite manufacturing arm of Boeing Integrated Defense Systems. "Boeing is committed to customer support, to quality and to open communication with our customers. The conference and the new website allow us to set the standard for how you treat your customers and receive feedback from them on how we are doing."

The Customer Operations Support group provides service 24 hours, 7 days a week for every satellite built by Boeing Satellite Systems. "If the customer needs us, we are there to help them work any issues from the ground station to the satellite in orbit," said Stan Kent, Customer Operations Support Group at BSS.

Boeing Satellite Systems has hosted the conference every two years for the past 18 years. This year attendees at the Manhattan Beach Marriott Hotel will hear presentations on more than 20 industry- and fleet-related topics, including product-line improvements and U.S. export compliance regulations.

The conference will also feature Sir Arthur C. Clarke speaking via satellite from his home in Sri Lanka during a July 31 dinner. Clarke, the author of "2001: A Space Odyssey," wrote a technical paper in 1945 proposing the idea of a geosynchronous orbiting communications system with three satellites covering the world.

A unit of The Boeing Company, Boeing Integrated Defense Systems, or IDS, is one of the world's largest space and defense businesses. Headquartered in St. Louis, Boeing Integrated Defense Systems is a $23 billion business. It provides systems solutions to its global military, government and commercial customers.
