November 17 -- Boeing delivered the 191st C-17 Globemaster III to the U.S. Air Force during a ceremony at its final assembly facility in Long Beach, California. U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. David S. Fadok, director for Policy and Strategy, U.S. Southern Command, piloted the advanced airlifter to its new home at Charleston AFB, South Carolina.
October 28 -- Boeing delivered the 190th C-17 Globemaster III to the U.S. Air Force during a ceremony at its final assembly facility in Long Beach, Calif. Lt. Gen. Charles Stenner, chief of the Air Force Reserve and commander, Air Force Reserve Command, piloted the advanced airlifter to its new home at the 437th active and 315th reserve wings at Charleston AFB, South Carolina.
October 10 -- C-17s with the Hawaii Air National Guard and the U.S. Air Force completed a ten-day mission during which they ferried humanitarian and disaster relief to victims of the tsunami and earthquake that struck American Samoa on September 29.
October 9 -- C-17s from McChord AFB, Wash., completed a humanitarian airlift mission to earthquake-stricken Padang, Indonesia, where nearly 800 people were killed, giving them a total of three humanitarian missions completed in just over a week.
October 6 -- The U.S. Senate voted to maintain funding for 10 C-17s in its final version of the FY2010 Defense Appropriations Bill.
September 17 -- Boeing delivered to the NATO Airlift Management Organization (NAMO) a second C-17 Globemaster III that will support NAMO's 12-nation Strategic Airlift Capability (SAC) initiative.
September 10 -- Boeing delivered the Qatar Emiri Air Force's second C-17 Globemaster III during a ceremony at the company's C-17 final assembly facility in Long Beach, completing Qatar's initial order for the world's most advanced airlifter.
September 9 -- The U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee included $2.5 billion for 10 C-17 advanced airlifters in the FY 10 budget. The bill will be voted on by the full senate this month.
August 11 -- Boeing delivered Qatar's first C-17 Globemaster III airlifter to the Qatar Emiri Air Force during a ceremony at the company's facility in Long Beach. Boeing will deliver Qatar's second C-17 later this year.
July 30 -- The U.S. House approved legislation providing $636.3 billion for defense in fiscal year 2010, including $674 million to buy three C-17 advanced airlifters. The U.S. Senate has not passed its 2010 defense appropriations bill yet.
July 27 -- The first C-17 acquired by the NATO Airlift Management Organization and the 12-nation Strategic Airlift Capability consortium officially joined the Heavy Airlift Wing at Pápa Air Base, Hungary, as part of a ceremony commemorating the activation of a new airlift capability for ten NATO and two Partnership for Peace nations.
July 16 -- The U.S. House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense completed and marked-up the Fiscal Year 2010 Defense Appropriations Bill, which includes $674 million for the procurement of three C-17 airlifters.
July 14 -- Boeing delivered the first of three C-17s to the 12-nation Strategic Airlift Capability consortium during a ceremony at its final assembly facility in Long Beach, paving the way for the advanced airlifter's historic arrival at Pápa Air Base, Hungary, later this month.
June 25 -- President Obama signed the FY 2009 Supplemental Defense Spending bill, which included $2.17 billion in funding for an additional eight C-17 airlifters.
June 22 -- Boeing delivered the U.S. Air Force's 189th C-17 Globemaster III. After completing a defensive modification in San Antonio, Texas, the airlifter will be assigned to Charleston AFB, South Carolina.
June 18 -- The U.S. Senate approved the FY09 Supplemental Defense Spending bill with funding for eight C-17s.
May 20 -- Two U.S. Air Force C-17 airlifters delivered humanitarian aid to Pakistan's northwestern provinces to support residents displaced by fighting between government forces and the Taliban. The C-17s were sent in response to a specific request from the Pakistani government. The C-17s are delivering 125,000 meals and 50 tents.
May 13 -- A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III and its crew, operating in conjunction with U.S. Southern Command efforts, delivered 30,000 H1N1 influenza prevention kits to six South American countries.
May 12 -- Boeing delivered the U.S. Air Force's 187th C-17 during a ceremony at its Long Beach final assembly facility. Brig. Gen. Bryan J. Benson accompanied the crew that flew the advanced airlifter to its new home at Charleston, AFB, South Carolina.
April 30 -- A C-17 Globemaster III airlifter on Tuesday surpassed the 50,000 flight hour mark for the United Kingdom's Royal Air Force C-17 fleet. Aircraft ZZ175 marked the milestone during a mission from Afghanistan. During the eight years since the first C-17 delivery to the UK, the RAF's fleet of six C-17s has flown more than 22 million nautical miles (25 million miles or 41 million kilometers)."
April 17 -- Boeing delivered the U.S. Air Force's 186th C-17 during a ceremony at its Long Beach final assembly facility. Maj. Gen. Erwin F. Lessel III served as the delivery officer, piloting the advanced airlifter to its new home at Charleston AFB.
March 31 -- Brig. Gen. Samuel D. Cox, commandant of cadets at the U.S. Air Force Academy, in Colorado Springs, Colo., accepted delivery of the U.S. Air Force's 185th C-17 Globemaster III during a delivery ceremony on Tuesday at Boeing's Long Beach, Calif., final assembly facility.
March 26 -- Boeing celebrated the 'major join' of Qatar's first C-17 Globemaster III advanced airlifter in a ceremony at the company's C-17 final assembly facility in Long Beach. Qatar was the first Middle East nation to order the C-17.
March 13 -- Boeing marked a key milestone at its C-17 final assembly facility in Long Beach -- the "major join" ceremony for the 12-nation Strategic Airlift Capability (SAC) consortium's first C-17 Globemaster III. The unique SAC approach to shared use of the strategic airlifter was hailed as a model for the future acquisition and management of defense capabilities for NATO and European Union missions.
March 3 -- Boeing delivered the U.S. Air Force's 184th C-17 Globemaster III during a ceremony at its Long Beach assembly facility. Brig. Gen. Kenneth Merchant, director of Logistics at Air Mobility Command, Scott Air Force Base, Ill., led the flight crew that flew the advanced airlifter to its new home with the 437th Airlift Wing at Charleston Air Force Base, S.C.
February 24 -- The United Arab Emirates announced that it will enter negotiations with Boeing to acquire four C-17 Globemaster III advanced airlifters. The announcement was made at the 2009 International Defense Exhibition and Conference in Dubai.
February 19 -- A Charleston-based C-17 Globemaster III carrying more than 15,000 pounds of children's shoes landed in Belize in early February as part of a humanitarian mission to the Central American country.
February 6, 2009 -- The U.S. Air Force awarded Boeing a $2.95 billion contract for the 15 additional C-17s funded in the FY08 Wartime Supplemental Bill, extending the program through August, 2010. Boeing is now on contract to deliver a total of 205 C-17s to the USAF.
January 13 & 14 -- Two C-17s from Travis Air Force Base delivered peacekeeping equipment and supplies from Kigali to the Darfur Region of Sudan as part of a United Nations-Africa Union peacekeeping mission. The advanced cargo planes carried about 30 tons of materiel, including oversized vehicles, water purification systems, water trailers, tents and spare parts.
December 23 -- Boeing's Long Beach, Calif. final assembly facility delivered the U.S. Air Force's 182nd C-17 Globemaster III -- the 16th and final delivery of 2008.
December 11-- Brigadier General Janet A. Therianos, director of intelligence, Air Mobility Command, accepted delivery of the U.S. Air force's 181st C-17 Globemaster III, which is now assigned to Charleston AFB.
December 8 -- The Royal Australian Air Force celebrated the second anniversary of its acquisition of C-17s. Personnel from 36 Squadron have supported operations in Afghanistan, Iraq, East Timor, Papua New Guinea and Burma. The event featured the RAAF's first all-female flight crew to command a C-17.
November 24 -- Boeing announced that the NATO Airlift Management Agency general manager, on behalf of the Strategic Airlift Capability (SAC) nations, has signed a Letter of Offer and Acceptance with the U.S. government for the acquisition of two Boeing C-17 Globemaster III long-range cargo jets. The agreement follows NATO's Oct. 1 announcement that the 12 SAC nations had formally agreed to move forward with the acquisition of C-17s.
November 18 -- Boeing delivered the U.S. Air Force's 180th C-17 Globemaster III, the 51st for Charleston AFB. Brigadier General Bradley R. Pray, Deputy Director of Air, Space and Information Operations at Headquarters Air Mobility Command, Scott Air Force Base, Illinois, flew the plane to its new home in South Carolina.
November 5 -- Boeing delivers the thirteenth C-17 Globemaster III to Travis AFB, completing the squadron there. Gen. Arthur J. Lichte, commander, U.S. Air Force Air Mobility Command, accepted delivery of the Air Force's 179th C-17 and piloted the 'Spirit of Travis' to Travis.
October 8 -- Dover Air Force Base, Delaware, received its 13th C-17 Globemaster III airlifter during a ceremony at Boeing's Long Beach production facility. Named "The Spirit of Delaware," the advanced airlifter was piloted to Dover AFB by Gen. Arthur Lichte, commander, U.S. Air Force Air Mobility Command, Scott AFB.
October 1 -- Boeing announced that an international consortium of 10 NATO members, joined by Partnership for Peace nations Sweden and Finland, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Sept. 24 to acquire three Boeing C-17 Globemaster III long-range cargo jets. The agreement sets the stage for NATO's first major defense purchase in 30 years.
September 24 -- A House-Senate conference committee passed a $487.7 billion defense appropriations bill for fiscal year 2009. The bill authorizes the U.S. Air Force to spend $2.1 billion for six C-17s, but did not include funding.
September 11 -- Brigadier General Barbara J. Faulkenberry, deputy director, Strategic Plans, Requirements & Programs, Air Mobility Command, accepted delivery of the U.S. Air Force's 177th C-17 Globemaster III during a ceremony at Boeing's Long Beach production facility. The advanced airlifter is now assigned to Dover Air Force Base, Delaware.
August 19 -- Four-star General Victor E. Renuart, Jr., commander of the North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command, accepted delivery of the U.S. Air Force's 176th C-17 Globemaster III during a ceremony at Boeing's Long Beach production facility. The advanced airlifter has been assigned to Dover Air Force Base, Delaware.
August 13-14 -- Two U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemasters departed Ramstein Air Base, Germany, and landed at Tbilisi International Airport , delivering $1 million in humanitarian aid to the people of the Republic of Georgia. The airlifters carried medicine, clothing, sleeping bags, cots and other essential items.
July 25 -- Boeing delivered to the U.S. Air Force its 175th C-17 Globemaster at the company's Long Beach, Calif. assembly facility. Lt. General Ron F. Sams, the Inspector General of the U.S. Air Force, piloted the C-17 to Dover AFB, where it will join a fleet of nine other C-17s.
July 21, 2008 -- Boeing and the government of Qatar signed an agreement for the purchase of the C-17 Globemaster III airlifter to provide new strategic-airlift mobility capabilities for the Qatar Armed Forces (QAF). Qatar will sign a Foreign Military Sales agreement for contractor logistics support with the U.S. Air Force.
July 1 -- Boeing delivered the U.S. Air Force's 174th C-17 during ceremonies at the company's Long Beach, Calif. assembly facility. Assigned to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware, it is the ninth of 13 C-17s scheduled to be delivered to Dover.
June 30 -- President Bush signed a fiscal year 2008 supplemental defense spending bill that includes $3.6 billion in funding for an additional 15 C-17 Globemaster III airlifters. The $165 billion bill extends the C-17 production line through August, 2010.
