HUGHES APPOINTS NEW VICE PRESIDENT FOR EUROPEAN OFFICE (photo)

STUTTGART, Germany, Jan. 10, 2000 --Reinhard Schnabel will lead Hughes' satellite marketing efforts in a key area as newly appointed Vice President/Europe of Hughes Space and Communications International Service Company.

Schnabel brings to Hughes Space and Communications (HSC) more than 30 years' experience in space and ground system marketing, engineering and regulatory matters. He will report to Jack Strand, HSC's Director of Commercial Marketing worldwide. Schnabel succeeds William Schnicke as HSC's principal representative in Europe, and will have his office in Stuttgart. Schnicke, who had been located in Brussels, is returning to HSC's offices in El Segundo, Calif., to support new business campaigns.

"Reinhard has an exceptional knowledge of our industry, and has established relationships with the key people in the satellite business in Europe. Hughes is pleased to have him, and he will be a strong addition to our team," said Tig H. Krekel, HSC President and CEO.

Schnabel most recently was Vice President for Business Development and Programs for the Space Communications Division of Bosch Telecom GmbH. He also was a member of the Eurospace Council, and chairman of the Program Board for Communications and Navigation with the German space agency. Previously he held business development and program management positions with ANT Nachrichtentechnik GmbH and AEG-Telefunken. While with AEG, he worked with Hughes on several joint projects.
