ASIASAT 3 -- A technician in Hughes' Integrated Satellite Factory inspects the thruster assembly of AsiaSat 3, an HS 601HP, or high-power, satellite built by Hughes Space and Communications Company for Asia Satellite Telecommunications Company Limited, or AsiaSat. The satellite will be launched by a Proton rocket from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. AsiaSat 3 features 9900 watts of power and will join AsiaSat 1, also built by Hughes, to distribute television and telecommunications services to Asia, the Middle East, Australasia, and the Commonwealth Independent States. AsiaSat 3 features 28 active C-band and 16 Ku-band transponders. Designed for 15 years, AsiaSat will be stationed at 105.5 degrees East longitude.
