Astra 2A Beam Check

BEAM CHECK -- Technicians adjust thermal blankets on the Astra 2A broadcasting satellite, before a test at Hughes Space and Communications Company's factory near Los Angeles. Antenna beam patterns for the satellite will be checked in this anechoic chamber to confirm they are the correct shape and strength to provide television and radio programming to subscribers across Europe. Hughes built the satellite, an HS 601HP model, for Société Européenne des Satellites (SES) of Luxembourg. It is scheduled for launch on a Proton rocket from Baikonur, Kazakstan, on Aug. 30, 1998.
