| ASTRA 2C and 2D -- Société Européenne des Satellites (SES) of Luxembourg has contracted for two high-power spacecraft, ASTRA 2C and 2D, from Hughes Space and Communications International, Inc., to help meet growing demand for digital satellite services at SES' second orbital slot, 28.2 degrees East. ASTRA 2C, left, an HS 601HP model, will be launched in 2001. ASTRA 2D, an HS 376HP model, will be launched next year. These new orders represent the 8th and 9th Hughes-built spacecraft in the SES fleet of satellites for direct-to-home broadcasting and multimedia services. The satellites will be built by Hughes Space and Communications Company in El Segundo, Calif.
