GETTING READY FOR DEPARTURE -- Technicians prepare the Brasilsat B4 satellite for shipping to Kourou, French Guiana, for its launch this summer on an Arianespace Ariane 44LP rocket. This is the fourth in a series of wide-body Hughes 376W satellites built by Hughes Space and Communications Company (HSC) for EMBRATEL, Latin America's largest satellite operator. The satellite is in its stowed configuration, with the antennas folded down and the telescoping solar arrays closed. In orbit and fully deployed, it will measure approximately 12 feet (3.6 meters) in diameter and 27 feet (8.4 meters) tall. Brasilsat B4 will deliver primarily voice and data services to Brazil.
