FINAL STAGES -- Technicians make adjustments to the Brasilsat B-3 satellite as it nears completion in the Hughes Space and Communications Company factory near Los Angeles. In the foreground is the payload section of the HS 376W spacecraft, with its antenna folded down and a ring of solid-state power amplifiers visible. The amplifiers power the satellite's 28 active transponders. In the background is the satellite's cylindrical solar array. In orbit, the satellite will be 12 feet in diameter and 27 feet tall with the telescoping solar arrays opened and the antenna deployed. The satellite was built for EMBRATEL, the leading Brazilian telecommunications company, and is set for launch Jan. 30, 1998.
