| NEW FOR DIRECTV -- A new satellite will join DIRECTV's fleet of DBS satellites at 101 degrees West longitude this summer. DIRECTV 1-R is a Hughes Space and Communications Company HS 601HP model with 16 Ku-band transponders. It will deliver 7.5 kilowatts -- 50 percent more power than its predecessor, a classic HS 601 model satellite. This will allow DIRECTV to add 20 channels for expanded direct-to-home programming services. |
