WORLD'S LARGEST SATELLITE FACTORY -- With nearly 600,000 square feet of manufacturing space, the Integrated Satellite Factory of Hughes Space and Communications Company is the largest in the world. Pictured here is its latest addition: a 63,000-cubic-foot, dual-capacity thermal vacuum chamber. The door alone weighs 105 tons. The Integrated Satellite Factory at Hughes, the world's leading manufacturer of geostationary commercial communications satellites, is capable of simultaneously conducting four spacecraft-level thermal vacuum tests, five nearfield antenna tests, and two spacecraft-level thermal stress tests. Pictured here is JCSAT-6, an HS 601 communications satellite for Japan Satellite Systems, Inc. JCSAT-6 is the first satellite to be tested in the new chamber, and is scheduled for launch in the summer of 1998.
