READY FOR ACTION -- Engineers at Hughes Space and Communications Company conduct vibration testing on Galaxy IVR, a high-power Hughes 601HP built for PanAmSat Corporation. The launch of Galaxy IVR, scheduled for April 18, 2000, from French Guiana, marks the third Hughes-built satellite to launch for PanAmSat in 120 days. Galaxy IVR carries 48 transponders, 24 in Ku-band and 24 in C-band. With 8,800 watts of power, the satellite will provide broadcast and telecommunications service to North America, with back-up services to Latin America, from its orbital slot at 99 degrees West longitude. Galaxy IVR will be the 21st satellite to join the PanAmSat fleet.
