GALAXY X -- The latest satellite to join PanAmSat's global satellite fleet, Galaxy X, is shown undergoing vibration testing at Hughes' Integrated Satellite Factory prior to shipment to Cape Canaveral for launch on the first Boeing Delta III rocket. An HS 601HP model built by Hughes Space and Communications Company, Galaxy X's services will expand domestic capability of PanAmSat significantly. The spacecraft features 48 transponders, 24 in C-band and 24 in Ku-band, and will provide broadcast and telecommunications service to all 50 states and the Caribbean. Galaxy X will be located at 123 degrees West longitude. Galaxy X is the 45th satellite to be delivered in orbit by Hughes. It is also the 41st HS 601 to be launched and the fifth HS 601HP.
