READY TO GO -- Engineer adjusts a thermal blanket on the JCSAT-6 satellite, prior to shipping from the Hughes Space and Communications Company factory in Los Angeles. The red cone-shaped structures near the technician are protective coverings for the stationkeeping thrusters, used to keep the satellite properly oriented in space. The solar panels, which generate approximately 5,000 watts of power, are folded against the sides of the spacecraft, and one of the Ku-band antennas can be seen, covered in another thermal blanket. In this stowed configuration, the satellite measures 14 feet (4.3 m) tall by 9.2 feet (2.8 m) x 12.4 feet (3.8 m). Launch is set for Jan. 31, 1999, on an Atlas IIAS rocket from Cape Canaveral, Fla.
