WAITING TO FLY - An Ariane 44L rocket undergoes preparations prior to launching two Boeing-built satellites from the Guiana Space Center on the northeast coast of South America. The satellites - JCSAT-8, a Boeing 601 model satellite, and ASTRA 3A, a Boeing 376 spacecraft - were successfully orbited on March 28, 2002, at 10:29 p.m. at the launch site (5:29 p.m. PST; 1:29 a.m. March 29 GMT). Boeing Satellite Systems built JCSAT-8 for Tokyo-based JSAT Corporation and ASTRA 3A for SES ASTRA of Luxembourg.
