| NEW LEASE -- Hughes Global Services, Inc., a subsidiary of Hughes Space and Communications Company, is leasing transmission capacity on PanAmSat Corporation's Leasat 5 satellite to the Royal Australian Navy. Pictured here in the Integrated Satellite Factory of Hughes Space and Communications Company prior to its launch in 1990, Leasat 5 was leased to the U.S. Navy until early 1997. Under the terms of this unique contract, Hughes Global Services led the effort to relocate the satellite to a new position from
which PanAmSat will monitor and control Leasat 5's payload on behalf of the
Australian Defence Force. The satellite arrived on-station at 156 degrees
East longitude on April 3, 1998 to provide ultra-high frequency satellite
communications services to Australia. |
