| MORE POWER - Spectrolab, the world's largest manufacturer of space solar cells, has reached an unprecedented industry milestone of producing one million multi-junction gallium arsenide (GaAs) solar cells. These multi-junction GaAs solar cells provide more power with no increase in size or weight to existing and flight-proven satellite designs. As shown on the photo above, the improved triple-junction solar cell debuted on Galaxy IIIC, a commercial satellite for PanAmSat Corporation that was launched on June 15, 2002. The improved triple-junction solar cell, first produced in 2001, currently counts for 20 percent of the solar cells produced with a beginning of life power efficiency of 26.5 percent |
